Project title: What a waste! Understanding public perceptions of Carbon Dioxide Utilisation (CDU)

Primary supervisor: Dr Chris Jones

Project description: Carbon Dioxide Utilisation (CDU) technologies hold promise for making use of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from carbon intensive processes like fossil-fuel power generation. CDU uses CO2 as a feedstock for things like plastic and transport fuel manufacture, and for use in enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Thus, CDU could help limit atmospheric releases of CO2 while providing saleable and scalable products for what is otherwise a ‘waste’ greenhouse gas. While there is growing investment in the research and development required to test the technical and economic viability of CDU; to date there has been little systematic research into public perceptions of the technology. This PhD would run studies to investigate current attitudes towards CDU and to identify the antecedents of these attitudes.
This project would come under the Environment & Behaviour Research Group (EBRG)
